Meet the person behind the work

Hey, I'm Dakota.
Let's keep
good hardware
playing.

I'm the person behind Texas Retro Works and Texas Board Works. What started with modding consoles in high school became a lasting interest in the hardware, the possibilities, and the people who enjoy it.

Dakota / Texas

Always curious.
Still a GameCube fan.

01 / A little about me

Curiosity is
part of the job.

I've been tinkering with consoles since high school. Back then, it was about trying things, learning as I went and seeing what else a system could do. That curiosity never really went away. The GameCube is still a favorite, but I enjoy working across generations and finding new reasons to pick up an old controller.

Working in the industry and selling online, I kept seeing people with good questions who struggled to find clear answers. What upgrade makes sense? Can this be repaired? Who can I trust to do the work? I wanted to make that part easier.

That's the idea behind Texas Retro Works: a welcoming place to find something you'll enjoy, ask a question without feeling out of your depth, and get straightforward help with a console you care about.

I still like getting into the details, whether that's hardware, homebrew or building a tool for my own projects. But you shouldn't need to know all those details just to get started.

You don't need to arrive with a part number or know the name of a mod. Tell me what you have, what isn't working, or what you'd like it to do. That's a good place to start.

02 / What matters to me

The details are the work.

01

Understand it first.

A symptom is a starting point. I want to understand the fault, the hardware revision and the work that has already been done before deciding what comes next.

02

Make it yours.

A useful upgrade fits the person who will play it. That might mean a better screen, a homebrew setup, a different controller feel or simply getting the original hardware working again.

03

Keep it straightforward.

Clear descriptions, a conversation about compatibility and a quote before the work. If the right approach depends on your hardware, I would rather talk it through than guess.

03 / Two sites, a clear purpose

The shop and the repair bench.

Both are my projects. Each has a job, so you know where to browse and where to follow your repair.
